Quotables: Kelly Clarkson Cancels Her Wedding, is Totally Sane

"We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, 'So, we change our minds and we want to elope.' We just got so overwhelmed by it - all the decisions. ... We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking. Then, honestly, the planning ... I have a Christmas record coming out. I'm doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now. We have two kids who just started school. We're going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and Brandon's [manages] one of the biggest artists [Blake Shelton] in country music. He's flying everywhere.''

--Kelly Clarkson on why she decided to cancel the big, beautiful wedding she was going to have, but gosh, let's all collectively hope that she still wears that gorgeous dress up there, even if it's just in front of her betrothed and the Justice of the Peace.

Truth be told, I'm in total agreement with Kelly's decision. There's so much pressure in planning a wedding, and getting the dresses, and the flowers, and the menus, and the reception booked, and ... God, there's way too much to put into it. Weddings are supposed to be enjoyable; a celebration of two people united 'til death (or divorce), and it seems like a lot of times, the actual planning process takes away from the event. So your wedding went off without a hitch, huh? You spent 15 months planning the most very perfect day in the whole entire world, and guess what! If you weren't born independently wealthy, or didn't save up to fund your wedding while you were planning it, then here's some news -- you're starting your marriage off in a 20 or 30k debt, whee!

While Kelly's obviously not canceling her big, fabulous wedding for lack of funds, to be sure, she's smart in any case. Good on you, girl.

Let the day speak for itself, y'all. Nobody needs to drop a year or half-a-year's salary on something that's going to be earnestly special as long as both people just show up anyway, you know?
