"I want to be hot like Britney. She was my first record. I was a lot of people's first idol. ... The way I am about Britney, that is the way that people are about me."
--Miley Cyrus in the Documentary That Just Wouldn't Die, and these days she's not just comparing herself to Michael Jackson -- she's Britney Spears, too, now.
See, the thing is that every generation thinks they're the "next ____." But the problem with that is there really can only be one, unless something extravagant occurs, and Miley is neither that "one," nor is she extravagant. Some might argue that Madonna was the Queen of Pop, and then there was Britney Spears, who was good enough to be in Madonna's court, but too diluted to be Queen, and then Miley ... who's even further diluted -- and deluded -- than most of her pop predecessors. Miley's all right, guys, but she's no Madonna. She's not even a Britney yet.
