"People were like, 'That's so great that you said [that you didn't want to be skinny] and I didn't think that was so weird. Every woman I know feels that way. ... I also am the recipient of a lot of backhanded compliments about it, where people are like, 'It's so nice that Mindy Kaling doesn't feel she needs to subscribe to the ideals of beauty that other people do.' And I'm like, 'I do subscribe!' They're like, 'It's so refreshing that Mindy feels comfortable to let herself go and be a fat sea monster.' By the way, I like run and work out. It takes a lot of effort to look like a normal/chubby woman. The way they talk about it, [it's] like, 'She's a pioneer because she's glued to her sofa.'"

--Mindy Kaling on being generally awesome, and how passive aggressive and awful some people can be about things that don't even concern them ... like, you know, the varying shapes that others' bodies take on sometimes.

Why do we have to preface positive comments about a robust woman with "for her size" or anything even remotely similar? Why can't women just be women instead of "heavier women"? Where's the fairness in that? Should we start compartmentalizing every single woman that struts around in today's day and age?

Should we have "plus-sized women" right next to "women so skinny they could be pre-adolescent young boys" and "obese health hazards"? Come on. We can do better than this, and by following Mindy Kaling's lead -- of not discriminating or judging; here's looking at you Joan Rivers -- then maybe we can change things, because damn ... they are in dire need of some serious change.
