"She was one of the cool girls. ... She made you want to feel like you were a grown-up. ... She told me to lie down on the floor. She took my bottoms off and she said, 'Be quiet'. She went down on me. I had no idea what it was, but I knew it felt good. ... I knew it felt good, but was also something that was not supposed to be happening. ... I kinda suppressed it, [but] it made me more sexually promiscuous and more sexually curious at a younger age than I should have been."
--Vanessa Williams -- superstar actress and former Miss America -- on being molested and assaulted when she was a mere 10 years old, and if this isn't one of the more heartbreaking tales you've heard today, then you, my friend, need to take the rose-colored glasses off for a minute and realize that this is a problem. No, it's more than that -- it's an epidemic.
The bit about Vanessa claiming that the abuse awakened a premature sexuality is probably the hardest to take, too -- it's not just abuse, it's a recalibration of an entire life, really. Something like this not only emotionally scars you, but, in Vanessa's case, changes you biologically and physiologically.
Our heart breaks for you, friend, and thanks for being brave enough to share your story so that others affected by this can begin to heal -- or begin to open up about it, at the very least.
