Quotables: Russell Brand Has Some Unkind Words to Say About Katy Perry

"When I got divorced, I considered becoming a monk. When you're a monk, you're not allowed to have sex with anyone. When you're married, it's one person. That's one more than a monk. It's not that different. I'd be having sex thinking, 'Think of anyone, anyone else'."

--Russell Brand on either slamming Katy Perry's sack skills, or really showcasing his sexual compulsions and addictions in a way that's too flippant to be looked at kindly.

We get it, Russell: you're a recovering basically everything, but joking about something like that -- something that concerns another person, even if it is the ever-annoying Katy Perry -- is just rude and doesn't say a whole lot with regard to anything at all being sacred. Do better, OK? You were doing so well for awhile there.

Out of context. Listen to any of the candid interviews he's done after the divorce; he's never said anything remotely negative about her.

Frankly, his career was running a fairly good pace while he was involved with Katy. I saw him on Jay Leno and thought he was funny, because he is, but let's face it -- you don't have to be mature to be funny. He hangs with Adam Sandler (now there's an intelligent species, cough, cough).

Funny, but will never respect the dude. Make me laugh, Russell. Make me laugh without licking your wounds at the same time.

Way to project your own brainwashed and entirely baseless social mores and personal inadequacies onto someone else for stating he feels about something deeply personal.

Katy perry has been telling vogue and anyone who will listen her side of the story. yes he may not be saying something nice but he has every right.

a) What was the context of this? Where and when did he say it?
Because the part about monks is from an interview with HuffPost live, but he did not say "I'd be having sex thinking, 'Think of anyone, anyone else" after that or at all. I don't think he's the type of guy who repeats himself verbatim in every interview.

b) Katy Perry has been bashing him every since the divorce, throwing a "divorce party" on the day that would have been their second anniversary, telling everyone and their mother how she was completely innocent about the divorce, how their parents were thanking God every day for their divorce and how she still has dirt on him that she's saving "for a rainy day".
He has never said a single bad word about Katy, he has too much class. I am sure that this is either made up or entirely out of context, but even if he decided that he's had enough of taking the high road when she has been talking shit for two years, GOOD FOR HIM!

Oh you bad people took his statement out of context. Thus far, he has gone out of his way not to slam his less talented ex-wife. I wish I could say the same for her. He sometimes rambles and the less intelligent do not understand him. Brandt is brilliant, hilarious and he is also a very sensitive soul who helps the homeless and folks working toward recovery. If you're going to blast him, at least have your facts straight.

PS. He is also (HELLO?) a comedian. And if you don't love and appreciate Russell Brand than you're as soulless as that untalented twit, Katie Perry. He was always too good for her.

This guy is just an embarrassment to the more discerning Brit, not funny at all. Can you keep him over on your side for as log as possible please.

That is taken straight from his latest show. It's about marriage in general and nothing to do with Katy Perry. I am not his greatest fan but this article is purposely misleading

I agree. I used to find him likable, but if he keeps making comments like this I will disregard anything connected to him.
