Let's Start Being Nicer to Fiona Apple, All Right?
This is a sad, sad story, friends, about people being mean to Fiona Apple, even though all she ever did was give us beautiful music. What happened was Fiona was doing a concert last night, being amazing, surely, and someone in the audience started being super mean. And then Fiona got super sad. And then we all wept for the state of humanity.
It started when the mouthy fan interrupted the show by yelling "Fiona! Get healthy! We want to see you in 10 years!" And that upset Fiona, understandably, who replied by saying "I am healthy! Who the f--- do you think you are? I want you to get the f--- out of here. I want the house lights on so I watch you leave!" So the lights came on, and the rude audience member left, but not before getting in one more very low blow: "I saw you 20 years ago and you were beautiful!"
Apparently Fiona managed to do one more song, but she did it while "sobbing," then she apologized and ended the show.
So here's an idea: if you're worried about someone, maybe pick sometime other than the absolute worst time to ask them about it. Maybe don't interrupt them while they're working in front of several other people. Maybe, if that someone is a famous someone that you don't actually know, a tweet would be appropriate, or even a Facebook post with the proper emoticons. Basically anything but this. Because otherwise, you could do something dumb, and then you'll forever be known as the jerk that made Fiona Apple cry. And is that what you want? It shouldn't be.
