Quotables: Lorde is Officially the Best (at Lesbianism?)
"What do you mean you’re not talking about 'Ellen together', is there something wrong with lesbians?"
--The lovely 17-year-old Lorde on her close friendship with Taylor Swift, and on the notion that she and Taylor are lesbian lovers.
Lorde was asked by a radio interviewer if she and Taylor were "together," but not together as in "lesbians," though it sure seemed that the way the DJ phrased the question was a leading one. When Lorde responded with her quip about nothing being wrong with lesbians, the interviewer fired back, "Oh my god no, I would love that! Are you going to confirm now you’re in a lesbian relationship with her?"
See, here's the thing wrong with this: the interviewer asking the questions was not only entirely out of place for even insinuating such a thing, because Lorde is still just 17 years old, but also wrong because Lorde is right -- what big deal would it be if Lorde was a lesbian, or even if it were Taylor Swift? Why is the subject of one's sexuality still such a controversial -- and inappropriately public -- idea to behold? Why does everyone think that their neighbor's sexuality is such a necessary concept of personal knowledge, or why it even matters?
Get over it, friends. If someone wants to admit to being a lesbian -- or not -- it's their decision, and any attempts at manipulating a person into commenting on something that they are (or are not) is massively wrong.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
