Olivia Newton-John's Daughter is a Jackass
You know what's not funny? Well, lots of things, but the main thing in question here right now are eating disorders. They're most definitely not funny, and the only thing less funny than an eating disorder is someone -- who formerly suffered from an eating disorder, mind you -- joking about eating disorders when they're apparently not intelligent enough to realize that there are others out there to whom eating disorders are not a joke ... especially those still suffering from one.
The photo up top belongs to a girl named Chloe Lattanzi, who is Olivia Newton-John's daughter. Chloe herself suffered from anorexia when she was younger -- she's 28 years old now -- and has never been shy about discussing her illnesses in a public forum. Chloe admitted to checking into her first clinic to treat anorexia when she was 18, and then again last year for substance abuse.
Chloe, however, exercised some pretty poor judgement when posting this photo over the last few days, because the caption read "Taken [sic] a quick lunch break. Diet water and some lettuce! Just kidding."
Does Chloe not realize that such a comment, while obviously reflecting poorly on Chloe herself, could negatively impact those who currently suffer from eating disorders, if they agree that her statement is a rational one? Or worse, the same folks taking the comment in a mocking context, it smashing any remaining bit of self-worth and esteem to dust?
Somebody who professes to be well and smart enough to dole out life advice should be a little bit more careful than this, because her insensitive, callous comments are reckless and hypocritical at best. This kind of stuff should not be happening at this stage in the game.
Let's hope for Chloe's sake that she really is joking, and that she's remorseful and aware enough to realize that she could have potentially done some serious damage with that caption.
