Dr. Drew Just Can't Stop Pissing People Off, Huh?

Dr. Drew
, bless his heart, always means well, he really does, it's just that sometimes he can be incredibly dumb/embarrassing about it, and that makes everyone hate him. It's a tough lot in life, isn't it? And it just got way tougher, because on a recent episode of Drew's radio show, Loveline, he got real dumb/embarrassing.

See, what happened was a man called in to ask a question about his lady, who's been suffering from issues like endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, lactose intolerance: basically health problems related to or affecting things close to the lady parts of a lady. And instead of hearing the guy out and answering his questions in a good way, here's what he said:

"These are what we call sort of functional disorders. Everything you mentioned, everything you mentioned, are things that actually aren't discernibly pathological. They're sort of — they're what we call 'garbage bag disorders,' when you can't think of anything else, you go 'eh, well it's that.' So it then makes me question why is she so somatically preoccupied that she's visiting doctors all the time with pains and urinary symptoms and pelvic symptoms, and then that makes me wonder, was she sexually abused growing up?"

And that's exactly why a lot of people have a hard time liking Dr. Drew, because he throws around terms like "garbage bag disorder" when someone tries to ask him a legitimate question, and then just randomly decides to bring up sexual abuse. That kind of thing makes it hard to appreciate someone. And then, just by the way, it turns out that Drew never even listened to the actual question, he just claimed that this guy's girlfriend's pain was due to abuse, the end. Heads up, y'all, that's not so cool.

Look, I've always liked Dr. Drew because he does do so much work to help people, and it's just the nature of things that he's going to screw up sometimes. But this right here, it's not your average screwup, it's disrespectful and dismissive and just plain inappropriate. And come on, you've had to expect at least a little better from him than this.

Why didn't Dr. Drew answer the caller's question? Instead, he chose to demean the girlfriend. He even insisted that they weren't even really engaged. What's with the personal attacks? The caller even said he was the fiancee. Why is Dr. Drew claiming it was the caller who lied? It makes him look more pathetic and incompetent. He seems to forget we have the video.

I love that he still looks more childish, disgusting, and ignorant than Psycho Mike! Mike's plan backfired on them!!! He was the only one to become hysterical! :D

FacePalm . . . . "Garbage Bag Diagnosis" isn't him being dismissive . . . .That's the term for "thee general symptoms that have no definitive categorization". Eczema, for example, is a garbage bag diagnosis. He also asked if the caller's girlfriend was sexually abused because chronic generalized pain in the groin is often a manifestation of sexual trauma. I'll bet he said something to that effect right after he asked the question, but you stopped listening. Is it that hard to google?

Thank you so much for picking up this story. I, for one, was incredibly hurt by Dr. Drew's comments, and even more so by his pathetic explanations and defensive antics on the night of the 27th. He actually advised a male caller to tell his fiancé to STOP treatment and to seek out help for mental problems, and he flat out claimed that there wasn't any discernible pathology to verify Interstitial Cystitis or Endometriosis. That statement alone is completely and utterly false.

His apology went so far as to claim the caller's fiancé didn't even have Endometriosis! All without ever having spoken with her or having heard a complete question from her fiancé. I for one was very upset, and still am. I have written an open letter to Dr. Drew Pinsky (http://red-hairing.com/2014/04/26/an-open-letter-to-dr-dr...) and followed that with a response to his "apology" in which he attempted to elicit, not only contributions to research a disease HE suffers with, but sympathy for the way the offended women had "attacked" him! His co-host even went so far as to call women with Endometriosis "twats" and say "they can take my balls, put them in their mouth, and eat 'em".

I hope this story gets out there. 178 million women world wide suffer with Endometriosis and between 50% and 84% of them ALSO have IC. Dr. Drew's comments were damaging, ignorant, and reckless. Women listeners may now be questioning the validity of their diagnoses and male callers may now be chocking up the pain that Endo and IC patients are suffering with to a "mental thing".  Thank you for getting the word out.

Everyone defending Dr. Drew needs to understand that endo and IC are NOT diagnosed by symptoms. They are diagnosed by exploratory surgery, and biopsy / cystoscopy respectively. Either she was not diagnosed, or Dr. Drew has no clue what these conditions are.

That is so not cool, and that is a BOLD presumption from a doctor who has never examined, met, or even spoken to that poor woman. He has a garbage bag disorder of the ego and mouth.

Dr. Drew went so far as to say we were not "sophisticated" enough to understand the situation. His co-host even went so far as to call women with Endometriosis "twats" and say "they can take my balls, put them in their mouth, and eat 'em"; in another "apology" segment he called the offended party "fücks", "cünts", and "snatches".

Dr. Drew's PR rep took to twitter in an even more offensive manner, telling women to #educateyourselves in response to the hashtag #educatedrdrew that he had been hit hard with, and just recently specialists in the fields of Endometriosis and IC have spoken out regarding his lack of knowledge (http://wp.me/p3M9i4-bK). Last night he posted a podcast in which he interviewed Dr. Tamer Seckin, but still spent a good percentage of the time defending, explaining, justifying, and rewriting history without ever discussing Interstitial Cystitis or the link between Endo and IC that has led to them being called the "Evil Twins".
