Dr. Drew Just Can't Stop Pissing People Off, Huh?
Dr. Drew, bless his heart, always means well, he really does, it's just that sometimes he can be incredibly dumb/embarrassing about it, and that makes everyone hate him. It's a tough lot in life, isn't it? And it just got way tougher, because on a recent episode of Drew's radio show, Loveline, he got real dumb/embarrassing.
See, what happened was a man called in to ask a question about his lady, who's been suffering from issues like endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, lactose intolerance: basically health problems related to or affecting things close to the lady parts of a lady. And instead of hearing the guy out and answering his questions in a good way, here's what he said:
"These are what we call sort of functional disorders. Everything you mentioned, everything you mentioned, are things that actually aren't discernibly pathological. They're sort of — they're what we call 'garbage bag disorders,' when you can't think of anything else, you go 'eh, well it's that.' So it then makes me question why is she so somatically preoccupied that she's visiting doctors all the time with pains and urinary symptoms and pelvic symptoms, and then that makes me wonder, was she sexually abused growing up?"
And that's exactly why a lot of people have a hard time liking Dr. Drew, because he throws around terms like "garbage bag disorder" when someone tries to ask him a legitimate question, and then just randomly decides to bring up sexual abuse. That kind of thing makes it hard to appreciate someone. And then, just by the way, it turns out that Drew never even listened to the actual question, he just claimed that this guy's girlfriend's pain was due to abuse, the end. Heads up, y'all, that's not so cool.
Look, I've always liked Dr. Drew because he does do so much work to help people, and it's just the nature of things that he's going to screw up sometimes. But this right here, it's not your average screwup, it's disrespectful and dismissive and just plain inappropriate. And come on, you've had to expect at least a little better from him than this.
