Deryck Whibley Needs Some Serious Help

5/18/2014 4:00 AM PDT, by Sarah Taylor
We haven't heard much from Deryck Whibley -- frontman of Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne's ex-husband -- but these photos emerged on Deryck's personal website over the last few days, and the near-death story that goes along with them is pretty disturbing to say the least.

From Deryck's site:

hey everyone, it’s deryck here. sorry i’ve been so m.i.a. lately, but i’ve been very sick in the hospital for a month and was pretty sick for a few weeks leading up to my trip to the hospital. the reason i got so sick is from all the hard boozing i’ve been doing over the years. it finally caught up to me. i was drinking hard every day. until one night. i was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around mid night and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden i didn’t feel so good. i then collapsed to the ground unconscious. my fiancé got me rushed to the hospital where they put me into the intensive care unit. i was stuck with needles and i.v.’s all over. i was completely sedated the FIRST WEEK. when i finally woke up the next day i had no idea where i was. my mum and step dad were standing over me. i was so freaked out. my liver and kidney’s collapsed on me. needless to say it scared me straight. i finally realized i can’t drink anymore. if i have one drink the doc’s say i will die. i’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly. i didn’t, and look where that got me. (i never thought i would ever say that! haha) anyway i have my passion and inspiration back for writing music. i already have a few song ideas for new songs. soon it will be time to start making an album and getting back to touring again. see you all sometime! there will be more posts again so say up to date friends.

Gosh, Poor Deryck ... hope he gets well, because those pictures -- and his story -- is no joke.

Feel better, friend -- sometimes the best lessons we learn are the hardest, but we're rooting for you!

I can understand. I was rushed to Emergency room in 2001 and came to the next day to see my parents (who lived 120 & 340 miles away at the time) standing over me with tears in their eyes. They told me that the Dr.'s called them and told them to get down here immediately because your daughter might pass away. Turns out I had dropped almost all my potassium from a week of severe unexplained vomiting. The Dr.'s said I could have gone into heart failure at any moment. It wasnt until 8 years later that I found out I had Lyme Disease. So I feel for him and know what Deryck felt when he said he woke up to see his parents. I wish him the best and I hope he remembers this feeling of getting a second chance and wanting to better his life. Since alcohol makes Lyme Disease worse I haven't had a drink since I was diagnosed! Almost 7 years now! I also thank God everyday for the warning and for waking up each day now!

OK he isn't well, but let's get this straight you CAN have a collapsed lung but NOT a LIVER & KIDNEY! They can stop functioning not collapse! He needs to go back to the Dr & ask for a please explain! As u don't really understand! But hope a speedy recovery!

Not sure what's going on with his left arm there, but I don't think that has anything to with drinking - at least not directly.

I wish this guy much success in his struggle back to good health. Not a fan of his band, but I am a fan of anyone who recognizes they have a problem and are trying to get their lives and health back in working order. Too bad he almost had to die to realize he needs help, but unfortunately that's what it takes for some people to stop drinking and drugging too much. Good luck Deryck.

His left arm...? How old are you? It's a blood pressure taker and the other is an IV... Christ.

So sad how the addiction to alcohol can take such control of your life. He really hasn't done anything much for years now and I'd heard it was because of alcohol. Hopefully this truly is a wake up call to him and he will remain sober and get his life back on track.

Doctors said don´t drink again or it will kill you... you are so stupid that I can bet that you will drink again...

Good for him for being honest, instead of trying to spin it into something like "exhaustion" or a "severe reaction to medication."

I don't feel bad for this dumb ass. Ive had kidney failure, and had 3 kidney transplants by NO fault of my own. All patients who have had transplants find assholes like this repulsive. He better pull his shit together, because nobody is going to be giving you any replacement organs if you need them, until you do. Grow up.
