Quotables: Lana Del Rey Doesn't Have to Be a Feminst if She Doesn't Want To, All Right?
“For me, the issue of feminism is just not an interesting concept. I’m more interested in, you know, SpaceX and Tesla, what’s going to happen with our intergalactic possibilities. Whenever people bring up feminism, I’m like, god. I’m just not really that interested. ... “My idea of a true feminist is a woman who feels free enough to do whatever she wants."
--The illustrious (no, really -- this chick is truly smart and talented and lovely) Lana Del Rey on the unimportance of feminism in her life, and Lana makes a fair point. If she's interested in topics that she, herself, believes transcend other issues -- like feminism -- then that's her prerogative. Isn't one of the fundamentals of feminism the allowance to determine what a woman believes to be of importance in her own life?
You might not agree with Lana's stance on feminism -- from a personal standpoint, I can appreciate the things that trump feminism from Lana's perspective, but womens' rights are more of a priority to me. However, despite the fact that my views don't necessarily align flush with that of Lana's doesn't mean that we, as women, can't cover all the bases ourselves by concerning ourselves with a variety of social issues collectively.
You do you, Lana -- you're real good at it.
