Sounds Like It's High Time to Worry About Lana Del Rey

So hey, don't freak out or anything, but Lana Del Rey did this new interview where she said some pretty sad, pretty scary things. Things like "I wish I was dead already." And she really didn't sound like she was joking. So let's all unite and send her some good feelings, all right? And let's also delve a little deeper into this.

This little train of thought began when Lana mentioned that some of her heroes are Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. The interviewer mentioned that both of those artists died young, and he asked her if she thought that was glamorous, and she said "I don't know. Ummm, yeah." And after that, she made that "I wish I was dead already" statement. She also said that "I don't want to have to keep doing this. But I am," and when she was asked what she was referring to, she said this:

"Everything. That's just how I feel. If it wasn't that way, then I wouldn't say it. I would be scared if I knew [death] was coming, but …"

She also said this:

"Family members will come on the road with me and say: 'Wow, your life is just like a movie!' And I'm like: 'Yeah, a really f---ed up movie.'"

And when she was asked about enjoying the huge success of her first single, "Video Games," she said this:

"I never felt any of the enjoyment. It was all bad, all of it."

That doesn't sound all that great, does it? It's actually pretty intensely concerning. So those good feelings, yeah? Let's get on those right away.

How terribly sad. She's such a talented artist. As a physician, I view her "passively suicidal". It doesn't take much more to push someone towards being "actively suicidal" followed by suicide attempts and/or successes. I see this almost daily in my practice. Ms. Del Rey needs intervention immediately. Voluntary treatment for depression is critical here with assessment for probable comorbid factors such as bipolarity, substance usage/abuse among others. What's difficult about this particular case (and those similar to hers) is that one of three criteria must be met before involuntary action can occur. The patient must be: 1) suicidal...actively as in stating "I'm going to kill myself", or having a suicide plan; 2) homicidal; 3) unable to care for herself. I'm not seeing anything to justify an involuntary 5150 psychiatric hold. Very frightening as these patients often slip through the cracks because they fail to meet appropriate and necessary criterion. Let's hope this young woman seeks help.

okay, so maybe people should stop buying her albums so she can be let go of her 'misery'.
if you are depressed, its understandable. however to insult your fans and people who are supporting your 'movie' life by saying your music success is the reason for your depression.

she should be more specific to the root and cause of her feeling this way.

it's clear she may be emotionally unstable and no matter what life would have brought her she would feel the same.

I am a huge Lana fan, but I also know a lot about suicides.
It's incredibly dangerous to speak aloud thoughts likes these.
Impressionable fans can be impacted.

I don't even know who she is. I 'think' she may have sung at the Krapta$ian wedding? I have heard her name somewhere, but I can't recall. She is def depressed and needs help of some kind. I would think therapy and fast. She is so young, and one shouldn't feel like this at any age!

Just fake hype.
Her stick is bombast, self important/indulgent lyrics, little else.
Everything sounds the same.
She is as intellectual as JAMES FRANCO.
A real DOUCHETTE!
If she's so miserable, quit it all.

She is the same age as my son who is also a musician & artist/student of graphic design. He feels the same way. I worry that many of our young generation in there 20's are all feeling this way no matter what their aspirations are. THIS is the first generation who will not do better in every way then their parents and previous generations. Who would not be depressed and big question - what do we do about this very serious problem? I had my first place at age 18, my son is 27 and still living with his dad. Has not had that amazing feeling of renting/owning his own space. Very sad for us all.
